About the Author
As a counselor in private practice, Dr. Stephenson provided counseling for more than four hundred children, youths, and adults who had been diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. This counseling would also require grief care to their family members and, at times, the community. He has assisted in the care of two communities that experienced major losses to violence.
He has participated in the development of hospices in San Diego, Seattle, Denver, and Chicago areas. His training includes developing a “death ward” in a hospital in Tijuana, Mexico, as well as developing a team of caregivers to provide end-of-life care to young people.
In addition to his private practice, he has also worked in the public sector and also for a large health insurance company, traveling all over the United States to bring a higher quality of mental health and recovery services to their constituents.
Since his retirement, Dr. Stephenson has written four books, two of them related to his work with the terminally ill. His most recent book, Sunrises and Sunsets, was inspired by the Twelve-Step program and is devoted to supporting someone who wants change in their lives.
